CommonWealth Business Women Uganda Chapter is to work with smallholder farmers across the country to guide them on how to tap into markets in the CommonWealth.

This was revealed by the incoming President of the Commonwealth Business Women Uganda Chapter, Salma Keirungi Otika on Saturday (May 31) evening at Onomo Hotel in Kampala.

According to Keirungi, although some women have already benefited from regional markets, they cannot satisfy the demand for mainly agriculture products in the commonwealth countries.

Recent statistics show that by March 2025, Uganda exported goods and services to the Commonwealth countries such as South Sudan, and South Africa amounting to $899.10 million, according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity website.

“We have a platform, we have access to opportunities, in the last few days I have tried to get a few people to have representation in different regions to help us identify the urgent needs so as to tailor our interventions,” she said.

Remmy Male, the Continental Secretary General for the Commonwealth Business Women Africa, explained that the idea of developing the Uganda Chapter was intended to bring close progress made in the Commonwealth Business space that can benefit women in Uganda.

“I founded the Uganda Chapter and we have a lot of progress; some at continental level, and others in each country, when that country succeeds, such programs are supported in other countries to benefit other women, ” Male said.

Other chapter heads that graced the event include those from Tanzania and Zambia among others.
